
Jewett William Adams (6 August 1835-18 June 1920) was the Democratic Governor of Nevada from 1 January 1883 to 3 January 1887, succeeding John Henry Kinkead and preceding Charles C. Stevenson.
Biography[]
Jewett William Adams was born in South Hero, Vermont in 1835, and he worked as a merchant and rancher before moving to Mariposa County, California in 1851 and opening a store amid the Gold Rush. He moved to Nevada in 1864 to work in mining, freighting, cattle raising, and owning another general store, and he served as Lieutenant Governor from 1875 to 1883 and as Governor from 1883 to 1887. Afterwards, he superintended the US Mint in Carson City from 1894 to 1898, and he moved to San Francisco in 1915 and died there in 1920.
