Jethro Irwin

Jethro Irwin (14 July 1760 – 2 September 1828) was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1795 to 1800.

Biography[]

Jethro Irwin was born on 14 July 1760 in Pine Hill, Ulster County, New York. Irwin entered the New York militia at the age of sixteen in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War, and Irwin fought under Benedict Arnold in the north. Irwin left the Continental Army after the war's end in 1783, and Irwin became a law student at King's College (Columbia University). In 1795, Irwin entered the New York State Assembly, and he joined the Federalist Party. Irwin left office in 1800 when the Democratic-Republican Party destroyed the Federalists, and he died in 1828 at the age of 68.
