Jesse Bledsoe

Jesse Bledsoe (6 April 1776 – 25 June 1836) was a US Senator from Kentucky from 4 March 1813 to 24 December 1814, succeeding John Pope and preeceding Isham Talbot. He was a Democratic-Republican.

Biography[]

Jesse Bledsoe was born in Culpeper County, Virginia in 1776, and his family later followed a Baptist congregation through the Cumberland Gap to settle in Kentucky. He became a lawyer in 1800, and he served as Secretary of State of Kentucky from 1808 to 1812. He served in the US Senate from 1813 until his resignation in 1814, and he served in the State Senate from 1817 to 1820. After working as a judge, professor, and minister, he moved to Mississippi in 1833 and to Texas in 1835. He died in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1836.
