Jesse Barrett Oldendorf (16 February 1887 – 27 April 1974) was an Admiral of the US Navy during World War II.
Biography[]
Oldendorf served in the Caribbean and Atlantic between January 1942 and December 1943 and then operated in the Pacific as a US task group comander in operations against the Marshall Islands, Mariana Islands, and Leyte Gulf in 1944. During the latter action he scored a key victory at night in the Surigao Strait, and also fought at Okinawa in 1945. Oldendorf took pat in the occupation of Japan after the war's end, and he retired in 1948. He died in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1974.
