Jess Caulfield

Jess Caulfield was an American cowboy who lived in Galeno, Arizona Territory during the 1880s. On 22 July 1881, he and several other townsfolk from Galeno lured Tombstone sheriff Clay Hollister to their town after he shot their local hero, cattle baron Hody Taylor, dead in Tombstone; they forced Hollister to stand "trial" for Taylor's "murder", but Hollister was able to prove his innocence after receiving telegrams from several other sheriffs proving Taylor's murderous criminal history. Hollister was then acquitted by the Mayor and by a reluctant Caulfield, and he chose not to press charges against the townsfolk.
