Jeronimo Valdes

Jeronimo Valdes (1784-1855) was a Spanish general during the South American Wars of Liberation.

Biography[]

Jeronimo Valdes was born in Villarin, Asturias, Spain in 1784, and he rose in the ranks of the Spanish Army. During the South American Wars of Liberation, he commanded royalist forces at the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824, suffering a defeat at the hands of a Peruvian army. From 1833 to 1834, he served as Viceroy of Navarre, and he sided with the liberals during the First Carlist War. Afterwards, he served as Captain-General of Valencia and of Galicia, and as Governor of Cuba from 1841 to 1843.
