Jeremiah Van Rensselaer (27 August 1738 – 19 February 1810) was a member of the US House of Representatives (F-NY 6) from 4 March 1789 to 3 March 1791, preceding James Gordon.
Biography[]
Jeremiah Van Rensselaer was born in Watervliet, New York in 1738, and he was the brother-in-law of Philip Schuyler, the uncle of Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, the brother of Robert Van Rensselaer, and the uncle of Jacob Van Rensselaer. He worked as a land agent, merchant, and surveyor before joining the Sons of Liberty and the Albany Committee of Safety and serving as a paymaster in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He served in the US House of Representatives from 1789 to 1791, as President of the Bank of Albany from 1798 to 1806, and as Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1801 to 1804 (succeeding Stephen Van Rensselaer and preceding John Broome). He died in 1810.
