Jeremiah Jesus

Jeremiah Jesus (born 1871) was a British street preacher in Birmingham, England during the early 20th century.

Biography[]

Jeremiah Jesus was born in Jamaica, and his family later emigrated to Birmingham, England in search of better work opportunities and living conditions. Jesus settled in the working-class Small Heath neighborhood, where he started a family and had a son, Isaiah Jesus. He went on to serve in the British Army during World War I, and he served alongside Tommy and John Shelby in France, befriending them and becoming an associate of their Peaky Blinders gang. Upon returning home, Jesus vowed to God to never pick up a weapon again, and he became an evangelical street preacher who decried the immorality and corruption of the city. In 1919, he took part in the Shelby family's gang war with Billy Kimber and his Birmingham Boys, although he never had to fire a shot, fulfilling his vow.
