Jeanine Anez

Jeanine Anez (13 August 1967-) was President of Bolivia from 11 November 2019 to 8 November 2020, succeeding Evo Morales and preceding Luis Arce. She was a member of the Social Democratic Movement party.

Biography[]

Jeanine Anez was born in Trinidad, Bolivia on 13 August 1967, and she became a lawyer in 1991 and then a media director at Totalvision. She served in the Constituent Assembly from 2006 to 2008 and in the Senate from 2010 to 2019, serving as a member of the Democrat Social Movement party; she was affiliated with its conservative wing. On 10 November 2019, following the 2019 Bolivian coup d'etat and the resignation of President Evo Morales, his Vice-President, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, and the President of the Senate, Anez - as Vice-President of the Senate - succeeded to the presidency with the support of the political opposition. She presided over the country until a new general election could be held on 18 October 2020, in which she placed in fourth, and MAS-IPSP candidate Luis Arce won in a landslide with 55.10% of the vote.
