Jean-Isidore Harispe was a general of the French Army under the July Monarchy and the French Second Republic. Harispe commanded the 12,000-strong Royal Guard in Paris, France, guarding King Louis Philippe I. Harispe was a convinced member of the liberal Orleanists, and he was tasked with putting down insurrections against the regime, including the 1832 June Rebellion and the French Revolution of 1848. Harispe continued to command the royal guard under Emperor Napoleon III during the 1850s, switching his allegiance to the French Liberals.
