Biography[]
Jay Inslee was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and he practiced law in Selah for 10 years before serving in the State House from 1989 to 1993 as a progressive Democrat. In 1992, he was elected to the US House of Representatives to elect central Washington, and he was defeated for re-election in 1994 and launched a failed gubernatorial bid in 1996. However, he returned to the US Congress in 1999 as the representative of Seattle's northern suburbs, and he was re-elected six-times before being elected Governor in 2012. He emphasized climate change, drug policy reform, and education during his time in office, and he gained national attention for his criticism of Donald Trump, whom he called a white nationalist in July 2019. He successfully sued Trump for his unconstitutional travel ban on Muslims, and, on 1 March 2019, he decided to enter the Democratic presidential primary to challenge Trump. Concurrently, he announced interest in running for another term as Governor in 2020. On 21 August 2019, he dropped out of the presidential race.
