Jay Fuller (1826 - 1869) was an American cavalry captain during the Texas-Indian Wars and during the Wild West era.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Jay Fuller was born in 1826 in Michigan, joining the US Army Cavalry at the age of 19. He fought in the American Civil War under General George Armstrong Custer as a Lieutenant. In 1869, following reports of Comanche attacks, he and his soldiers were called in to deal with them. Fuller proceeded to go on a raiding campaign to avenge all the people who the Comanche supposedly killed, killing dozens of innocent Native American tribesmen. He later met up with Latham Cole at his train, who was the only official in the area, and proudly informed him that he had paid them back "tenfold." Fuller was unaware that the Comanche attacks had been staged by Butch Cavendish, on Cole's own orders, to start a war as part of Cole's plot.
Comanche plot[]
Later, John Reid, nicknamed "the Lone Ranger", arrived in Colby, Texas with Cavendish in his custody to stand trial. However, while there, he learned about the plot against the Comanches, managing to catch Cole at gunpoint. However, Cavendish held Rebecca Reid, John's recently deceased brother's widow, at gunpoint, leading to a stand-off. Fuller burst in, with Reid telling him the truth about what was really going on, and how the Comanche were innocent. However, Cole pointed out this meant he had murdered innocent people "tenfold" and all that blood was on his hands. Unable to accept what he had done, Fuller sided with Cole. He then tried to put Reid to death by firing squad.
However, Tonto, a Comanche tribesman and ally of Reid, infiltrated the execution to rescue Reid before the Comanche retribution attack. Fuller led his men through the battle, using Gatling guns to kill many Comanche tribesmen during the battle. The last survivor, the chief, managed to sneak up and ambush Fuller near the end of the battle. However, Fuller killed him with his sword and was once again faced with what he had done. However, he chose to ignore his conscience and side with Cole, who continued to manipulate him. He returned with Cole to the railroad ceremony, guarding the train.
Death[]
However, having survived the battle, Reid and Tonto returned to stop Fuller, Cole and Cavendish with the help of Red Harrington, a local prostitute who hated Cavendish, due to him taking her leg. She distracted Fuller by showing him her Ivory leg, which allowed Tonto to steal the train carrying all of Cole's stolen silver ore. Harrington, using a gun hidden in her false leg, shot a cart of explosives, which caused the soldiers' horses to escape. Fuller managed to jump onto the train just as it was escaping, detaching the cars containing the silver.
Fuller then attempted to shoot Tonto, who was on the roof of the car he was in, but Fuller was distracted by Danny Reid, the son of John's brother, firing grapes at him with his slingshot. Angrily, he turned on the boy to kill him, but was stopped by John Reid firing at him. He and Reid engaged in a gun battle between the train cars. Fuller attempted to run out of the carriage to continue the fight, but Tonto knocked him out with a shovel before he could. He later tried to follow Tonto when he used a ladder to swap trains. But Tonto jumped off, causing it to collapse and him to fall down. He was last seen diving off the train, racing at high speeds, before it collided with the carriage containing Cavendish, killing him.
