Jawayd Anwar (18 April 1959 – 25 November 2011) was a Pakistani poet and philosopher, considered a leading figure of modern-day Urdu poetry. Ideologically a socialist, Anwar's most popular work is Barzakh Kay Phool ("flowers of the barrier").

Jawayd Anwar was born in the Islampura area of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on 18 April 1959.[1] He spent most of his childhood in Sargodha and attended Government Primary School in Sargodha and Punjab Medical College in Faisalabad. In 1989, Anwar travelled to Austria and later permanently shifted there and specialized as a doctor. Anwar had two daughters, Norma and Zohra, and a son named Dominik.[1]
Anwar's poetic works, especially his ghazals, are renowned in Pakistan.[2][3] Anwar's most popular book is Barzakh Kay Phool ("flowers of the barrier"). His other works include Shehr Main Shaam ("evening in the city") and Bhayriyay Suyay Nahin ("the wolves didn't sleep").[4]
