
Javad Fakouri (Fakoori) (3 January 1939-29 September 1981) was the Minister of Defense of Iran from 1980 to 1981 during the Iran-Iraq War. Fakouri presided over the successful bombing campaign against Iraq in 1980, but he died in an air crash in 1981.
Biography[]
Fakouri was a Colonel of Iran who commanded IRIAF, the Iranian air force, during the 1980 Operation Kaman 99 bombing of Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War. In June 1980 Ayatollah Khomeini made him the Minister of Defense of Iran, and commanded the armed forces of Iran during the early stages of the war. Alongside Major General Valiollah Fallahi and Colonel Mousa Namjoo, Fakouri died in an air crash near Tehran on 29 September 1981. At the time, he held the rank of Major General.
