
Jaroslav Sramek (born 3 May 1929) was a Colonel of the Czechoslovak Air Force during the Cold War, and was the only CAF to have shot down an enemy jet-propelled plane.
Biography[]
Sramek made model aircraft as a child, and joined the Czechoslovak Air Force in 1951. In 1953, Sramek shot down an F-84 Thunderjet of the USAF in the Battle of Merklin, the only Czechoslovak pilot to shoot down an enemy jet-propelled plane in combat. Sramek retired in 1989, and described the MiG-29 as his favorite plane due to its speed.
