Jamugha (1310-24 January 1353) was Protector General of the Yuan from 1334 to 353, preceding Daritai. He commanded the Yuan's armies in the Middle East during the 14th century, and, in 1338, he convinced the Eretnids to become Yuan vassals rather than face a Mongol invasion. However, the Ottomans chose to resist the Mongols in 1350, leading to a bloody four-year war in which the Mongols were defeated at the 1352 Battle of Iuliopolis and their siege of Ankara lifted with heavy losses. Jamugha died a maimed cripple in 1353.
