The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is a Kashmiri separatist group that was founded on 29 May 1977 by Kashmiri nationalist activists Amanullah Khan and Maqbool Bhat in exile in Birmingham, England. The group, unlike many other Kashmiri separatist groups, was opposed to both India and Pakistan, which they viewed as "occupying powers". The JKLF was nevertheless armed by Pakistan due to its use against India, as the Pakistani Army was confident that it could keep the JKLF on a leash. In 1994, the group declared an indefinite ceasefire and disbanded the military wing, but the Azad Kashmir branch split off from the JKLF and resumed its armed struggle.
