Jamie Gillis (born 1879) was the brother of Mary Linton and briefly a member of the Chelonians during the late 19th century.
Biography[]
Jamie Gillis was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1879, the much younger brother of Mary Linton, who took care of him after their mother passed away and their father Robert Gillis became an abusive drunkard. As a young boy, Gillis first met his sister's fiancee Arthur Morgan, who was friendly to Jamie and taught him how to ride horses; he was upset when their parents forced Mary to cancel her engagement due to their disapproval of Arthur's criminal lifestyle. In 1899, Gillis decided to run away from home because of his father's insistence that he was useless and not a true man, and Gillis joined the Chelonians because he saw them as decent and accepting. Mary contacted Morgan, who found the Chelonian camp and forcefully demanded to speak with Gillis. Morgan choked the cult leader after he refused to let Morgan through, and Gillis attempted to run away, saying that he was going to find paradise with the cult. Morgan chased him down until they reached a railroad, and they were separated by a passing train. As the train blocked Morgan, Gillis said that he didn't want to live anymore, and he pulled out a revolver and aimed it at his head, preparing to shoot himself. However, Morgan shot the gun out of his hand and calmed Gillis, who hugged him and finally agreed to go back to his sister. Morgan took Gillis on his horse and caught up on his life, advising him to work at an orchard due to Gillis' love for apples. Gillis also asked about Morgan's outlaw friends, and, when Marston mentioned that his two loved ones had died, Gillis commented that it was probably for the better that Mary did not marry him. However, he attempted to persuade Morgan to return to his relationship with her, saying that her husband's death left the door wide open. At the station, Mary had a happy reunion with her brother, and Arthur helped them both onto the train. Jamie later decided to go back to college, pursuing a brighter future.
