
James Watson (6 April 1750 – 15 May 1806) was a US Senator from New York from 17 August 1798 to 19 March 1800, succeeding William North and preceding Gouverneur Morris. He was a member of the Federalist Party.
Biography[]
James Watson was born in Woodbury, Connecticut in 1750, and he served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He served in the New York State Assembly in 1791 and from 1794 to 1796, and he served in the New York State Senate from 1796 to 1798. In 1798, he was appointed to finish William North's term in the US Senate, and he served as a Federalist Party member. In 1801, he was an unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York, and he died in 1806.
