James Washington Singleton (23 November 1811-4 April 1892) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-IL 11) from 4 March 1879 to 3 March 1883, succeeding Robert M. Knapp and preceding William H. Neece.

Biography[]

James Washington Singleton was born in Frederick County, Virginia, and he was raised in Mount Sterling, Illinois. He practiced law before serving in the militia during the Mormon War, after which he served in the state house from 1850 to 1854, moved to Quincy in 1854, served in the state house in 1861, and served in the US House of Representatives from 1879 to 1883. He moved to Baltimore in 1891 and died there a year later.
