James T. Elliott

James Thomas Elliott (22 April 1823-28 July 1875) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-AR 2) from 13 January to 3 March 1869, succeeding James M. Hinds and preceding Anthony A.C. Rogers.

Biography[]

James Thomas Elliott was born in Columbus, Georgia in 1823, and he became a lawyer in Camden, Arkansas in 1854 and a railroad president in 1858. After the American Civil War, he served as a circuit judge from 1865 to 1866, as the founding editor of the South Arkansas Journal, and in the US House of Representatives in 1869 following the murder of James M. Hinds by the Ku Klux Klan. He died in 1875.
