
James Semple (5 January 1798 – 20 December 1866) was a US Senator from Illinois (D) from 16 August 1843 to 3 March 1847, succeeding Samuel McRoberts and preceding Stephen A. Douglas.
Biography[]
James Semple was born in Green County, Kentucky in 1798, and he moved to Edwardsville, Illinois in 1818. Semple fought in the Black Hawk War of 1832 before serving in the state legislature, and he served in the US Senate from 1843 to 1847 as a Democrat. He was not renominated in 1846, and he died in 1866.
