James S. Jackson

James Streshly Jackson (27 September 1823 – 8 October 1862) was a member of the US House of Representatives (U-KY 2) from 4 March to 13 December 1861 (succeeding Samuel Peyton and preceding George Helm Yeaman) and a Union Army Brigadier-General during the American Civil War.

Biography[]

James Streshly Jackson was born in Fayette County, Kentucky in 1823, and he became a lawyer in Greenupsburg and served in the US Army during the Mexican-American War. He moved to Hopkinsville in 1859 and served in the US House of Representatives in 1861 before resigning to serve as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He commanded the Army of the Ohio's 10th Division, and he was killed at the Battle of Perryville in October 1862.
