James Reston Jr. (8 March 1941-) was an American author and playwright.
Biography[]
James Reston Jr. was born in New York City, New York in 1941, and he was raised in Washington DC. Reston graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1963, and he became an assistant to the US Secretary of the Interior, Stewart Udall, in 1964. From 1965 to 1968, Reston served in the US Army as an intelligence officer, and he became a creative writing lecturer at his alma mater in 1971, working there until 1981. In 1977, Reston assisted David Frost with his interview of President Richard Nixon, forcing Nixon to apologize after digging up transcripts of a conversation between Nixon and Charles Colson during the Watergate scandal. Reston would go on to become an author and a playwright, and he moved to Chevy Chase, Maryland.
