James M. Wayne

James Moore Wayne (1790-5 July 1867) was the Democratic-Republican Mayor of Savannah from 8 September 1817 to 12 July 1819 (interrupting Thomas Charlton's terms), a member of the US House of Representatives (D-GA AL) from 4 March 1829 to 13 January 1835 (succeeding George Gilmer and preceding Jabez Jackson), and an Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court from 14 January 1835 to 5 July 1867 (succeeding William Johnson). Born in Savannah, Wayne served in the War of 1812, in the state house from 1815 to 1816, as Mayor of Savannah from 1817 to 1819, as a local judge, in Congress from 1829 to 1835, and on the Supreme Court from 1836 until his death in 1867.
