James K. Barnes was a delegate from Arkansas to the 1880 Republican National Convention in Chicago. He later served as postmaster at Fort Smith from 1883 to 1885, 1889 to 1893, and from 1897 to 1898 and as US Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas from 1898 to 1909.
