James January Winans (7 July 1818-28 April 1879) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-OH 7) from 4 March 1869 to 3 March 1871, interrupting Samuel Shellabarger.
Biography[]
James January Winans was born in Maysville, Kentucky in 1818, and his family settled in Greene County, Ohio. He became a lawyer in Xenia, Ohio in 1843, served as a county court clerk from 1845 to 1851, in the State Senate from 1858 to 1860, as a court of common pleas judge from 1864 to 1871, and in the US House of Representatives from 1869 to 1871. He died in 1879.
