James Fitz-James Stuart, 2nd Duke of Berwick (21 October 1696 – 2 June 1738) was a Jacobite and Spanish nobleman and general.
Biography[]
James Fitz-James Stuart was born in Saint Germain en Laye, France in 1696, the son of James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick and the grandson of King James II of England. He served in the Spanish Army in Italy during the War of the Quadruple Alliance and rose to colonel of the Spanish Irish Brigade, Lieutenant-General of the Spanish Army, and Field Marshal in 1724; he also served as Ambassador to Russia from 1726 to 1730. He served as Ambassador to Vienna from 1730 to 1733 and to Naples from 1733 until his death in 1738.
