James Elliot (18 August 1775 – 10 November 1839) was a member of the US House of Representatives (F-VT 2) from 4 March 1803 to 3 March 1809 (succeeding Lewis R. Morris and preceding Jonathan Hatch Hubbard).

Biography[]

James Elliot was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1775, and he was educated in New Salem. He moved to Guilford, Vermont in 1790 to work as a store clerk, and he served in the Continental Army during the Whiskey Rebellion and the Northwest Indian War. He went on to serve in the US House of Representatives from 1803 to 1809, later joining the Democratic-Republican Party. He served briefly in the War of 1812 and later in the State House, and he joined the National Republican Party. He died in 1839.
