James Donnelly (25 May 1905 - 1964) was captain of the LAPD's homicide division in the 1940s. He was the superior of homicide detective Cole Phelps.
Biography[]
James Donnelly was born in Dublin, Ireland on May 25th 1905. He later emigrated to the United States with his family and settled in California. Donnelly joined the LAPD in 1923, and by 1947 was promoted to captain of homicide.
Donnelly was a heavy smoker and drinker during his life, he died as a result of heart disease in 1964.
