James Carr (9 September 1777 – 24 August 1818) was a member of the US House of Representatives (F-MA 17) from 4 March 1815 to 3 March 1817, succeeding Abiel Wood and preceding John Wilson.
Biography[]
James Carr was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1777, and he served in the State House from 1806 to 1811, representing Maine. He went on to serve in the US House of Representatives from 1815 to 1817, and he drowned in the Ohio River near Louisville, Kentucky on 1818 while trying to rescue his 9-year-old daughter, who had fallen off of a steamboat and into the river.
