James Buffington

James Buffington (16 March 1817-7 March 1875) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MA 2) from 4 March 1855 to 3 March 1863 (succeeding Samuel L. Crocker and preceding Oakes Ames) and from MA-1 from 4 March 1869 to 7 March 1875 (succeeding Thomas D. Eliot and preceding William W. Crapo).

Biography[]

James Buffington was born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1817, and he worked as a merchant before serving on the Fall River Board of Selectmen from 1851 to 1854, as Mayor of Fall River from 1854 to 1855, and in the US House of Representatives from 1855 to 1863 and from 1869 to 1875. He died in 1875.
