James Buchanan Richmond

James Buchanan Richmond (27 February 1842-30 April 1910) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-VA 9) from 4 March 1879 to 3 March 1881, succeeding Auburn Pridemore and preceding Abram Fulkerson.

Biography[]

James Buchanan Richmond was born in Turkey Cove, Virginia (now Seminary, Lee County) in 1842, and he practiced law in Wytheville before serving in the Confederate 15th Virginia Infantry Regiment and the 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. After the war, he served in the House of Delegates in 1873 and from 1874 to 1875, and he defeated his former commander Auburn Pridemore for election to the US Congress in 1879 and served until 1881. He later served as a Scott County judge from 1886 to 1892, and he died in 1910.
