James Bates (24 September 1789-25 February 1882) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-ME 7) from 4 March 1831 to 3 March 1833, succeeding Samuel Butman and preceding Joseph Hall. Born in Greene, Maine, he served in the War of 1812 before becoming a hospital executive and a congressman.
