James Barrigan (1978-2006) was a Massachusetts State Police trooper. He was a mole for the Costello Mob, and he was killed by fellow mole Colin Sullivan to cover his tracks.
Biography[]
James Barrigan was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978 to a family of Irish descent, and he became an associate of the Costello Mob. Francis Costello had Barrigan infiltrate the Massachusetts State Police, and he became one of his moles, working together with fellow mole Colin Sullivan in the Special Investigations Unit. They were unaware of each other's statuses as moles until Barrigan rescued Sullivan by shooting undercover cop Billy Costigan and trooper Anthony Brown, and he told Sullivan that he (Sullivan) was not Costello's only mole in the police. Sullivan then shot Barrigan dead and identified Barrigan as "the mole" in the state police, pinning all of his own crimes on him.
