James Garfield Memorial

The James A. Garfield Monument is a memorial to assassinated United States President James A. Garfield, located on the grounds of the United States Capitol in the circle at First Street and Maryland Avenue. The monument, commissioned by the Society of the Army of the Cumberland in 1884 (three years after Garfield's assassination by Charles J. Guiteau) was unveiled on 12 May 1887, and the monument was incorporated into the Capital Grounds on 2 January 1975.
