James A. Ekin

James Adams Ekin (31 August 1819-27 March 1891) was a Union Army brevet brigadier-general during the American Civil War.

Biography[]

James Adams Ekin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1819, and he worked as a steamboat builder before joining the 12th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment at the start of the American Civil War. Ekin rose to the rank of colonel while serving in the Quartermaster's Department of the Army of the Potomac, and, after the war, he participated in the military tribunal that tried Abraham Lincoln's killers. He retired in 1883 and died in Louisville, Kentucky, where he held his last command, in 1891.
