Jamal Zougam

Jamal Zougam (born 1973) is a citizen of Morocco who is a member of the Al-Qaeda organization who is responsible for the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

Biography[]

Zougam was born in Tangier, Morocco in 1973 but moved to Spain and became the owner of a mobile phone shop in Lavapies, Madrid. He was a member of Al-Qaeda, supplying phones used to detonate bombs to other Moroccan Islamist extremists. He also left a rucksack filled with bombs in the Madrid Atocha station trains, and detonated the bombs, killing 191 Spanish civilians and wounding 2,050. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the attacks.
