The Jamaican massacre was the nickname given by the NYPD to a massive 2008 shootout in Lower Manhattan which left several Jamaican gangsters from the Hillside Posse dead. Luis Fernando Lopez and his accomplices Armando Torres and Henrique Bardas drove south from Inwood in a black Cadillac Escalade SUV after discovering that the Hillside Posse were hiding a stash of drugs at Battery Park. The three Dominican gangsters ambushed the Jamaicans at the overlook recreational area, and a massive shootout erupted as the Dominicans fought their way up to the top of the overlook, where Lopez retrieved the drugs. The three gunmen then rushed back down to the street to escape, but four truckloads of Jamaican gangsters arrived in an attempt to kill the Dominicans in a drive-by shooting. Lopez killed all of them as they sat in their vehicles, and he and his two accomplices then drove up to Chelsea, where they delivered the drugs to their contact for sale. When the NYPD and paramedics arrived at the crime scene, they found around a dozen bodies at the overlook and 12 dead Jamaicans in their SUVs, and the scene was nicknamed the "Jamaican massacre". None of the gunmen were ever apprehended or convicted for their roles in the shooting.
