Jakob Kasimir de la Gardie

Jakob Kasimir de la Gardie (3 February 1629-7 October 1658) was a Swedish nobleman and the husband of Ebba Sparre, the lover of Queen Christina of Sweden.

Biography[]

Jakob Kasimir de la Gardie was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1629, the son of Jacob de la Gardie and the brother of Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie. He attended Uppsala University and followed his brother to the Swedish embassy in Paris in 1646, serving as a volunteer in the French Royal Army during the Thirty Years' War. In 1650, he became a colonel in the Dal Regiment of the Swedish army. In 1653, he married Queen Christina of Sweden's lady-in-waiting and lover Ebba Sparre, and their marriage was unhappy. De la Gardie continued his military career under Charles X Gustav of Sweden, and he was killed at the Siege of Copenhagen in 1658 during the Second Northern War.
