Biography[]
Jaime Roldos Aguilera was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1940. He practiced law before running for President in 1979 as the candidate for Assad Bucaram's Concentration of People's Forces party. He won the 1979 election after surviving an American plot to assassinate him, and he reduced the workweek to 42 hours, doubled the minimum wage, prevented the Paquisha War with Peru from escalating, and supported human rights.
