Jacob Dutton (1845) was an American Cattle Rancher who, along with his with Cara Dutton, took over the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch in 1894 after his brother James Dutton, was killed by horse thieves in 1893. Jacob Dutton turned James Dutton's cattle ranch into a successful and profitable empire, and he was a leading member of the Montana Livestock Association, He is also famous for his feud with Scottish sheepherder Banner Creighton, which led to the 1923 Montana Range War in which he was severely wounded. He was active in the Wild West era and the Roaring Twenties.
