Jackson Morton

Jackson Morton (10 August 1794-20 November 1874) was a US Senator from Florida (W) from 4 March 1849 to 4 March 1855, succeeding James Westcott and preceding David Levy Yulee.

Biography[]

Jackson Morton was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia in 1794, and he moved to Santa Rosa County, Florida in 1820 and engaged in the lumber business. He served in the state legislature and then in the US Senate from 1849 to 1855, and he attended the state secession convention in 1860. From 1861 to 1862, he served in the provisional Confederate Congress during the American Civil War. He died in 1874.
