Jack Henry Berry (1867-1899) was a US Army soldier who was stationed at Fort Wallace, South Dakota during the Wapiti War. In 1899, he and several other soldiers drunkenly desecrated, burned, and looted a Wapiti sacred site in the Black Hills, stealing a ceremonial chanupa pipe before returning to their camp down the slope. There, they were ambushed and killed by the outlaw Arthur Morgan, who recovered the chanupa for the Wapiti chief Rains Fall.
