Jack Dalrymple

John Stewart Dalrymple III (16 October 1948-) was the Republican Governor of North Dakota from 7 December 2010 to 15 December 2016, succeeding John Hoeven and preceding Doug Burgum.

Biography[]

Jack Dalrymple was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1948, and he was raised on his family's wheat farm in Casselton, North Dakota. He graduated from Yale in 1970 and worked for his family's farm before founding the Dakota Growers Pasta Company, North America's third-largest manufacturer and marketer of dry pasta products. He went on to serve in the state house from 1985 to 2000, as Lieutenant Governor from 2000 to 2010, and as Governor from 2010 to 2016. As Governor, he called out the state national guard to deal with protesters rallying against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2016.
