John W. "Jack" Bergman (born 2 February 1947) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MI 1) from 3 January 2017, succeeding Dan Benishek. He was a former Lieutenant-General in the US Marine Corps.
Biography[]
Jack Bergman was born in Shakopee, Minnesota in 1947, and he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Marine Corps reserve in 1969. He flew helicopters in Okinawa, Japan, and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and he rose to the rank of Lieutenant-General before retiring in 2009. In 2016, he was elected to the US House of Representatives from Michigan's 1st district, serving as a Republican Party. Despite identifying as a conservative, he did not strongly identify with either party, instead saying that himself and fellow generals swore to represente everyone, not just some. His top priority in the US Congress was cutting spending, as well as bipartisanship.
