The Jabalia refugee camp airstrikes was an airstrike launched by the Israel Defense Forces against a crowded market in the Palestinian Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip amid Operation Iron Swords, resulting in 105 fatalities and 120 injuries. Following "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood", Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised unprecedented vengeance, declaring his intention to destroy Hamas' capability to govern Gaza, and warning Gazans to evacuate to the southern part of the Gaza Strip. On 9 October, as the market of the Jabalia refugee camp (home to 116,011 people before the war) was crowded with customers and vendors stocking up on goods, an Israeli airstrike hit the al-Trans area of the market, striking at its heart. The entire market and surrounding buildings were destroyed; the Israeli government claimed that the airstrike targeted elements of Hamas located in a mosque. A second airstrike on 12 October destroyed several apartments and killed 45 people from two families. On 19 October, a third airstrike killed 18 refugees, and a 22 October airstrike, taking place during a particularly intense bombardment of Gaza, killed at least 30 people. On 31 October as Israel launched an all-out ground invasion of Gaza, at least 50 people were killed in an Israeli air attack on apartment blocks in a residential area of the refugee camp in northern Gaza as IDF troops pushed deeper into the city. The IDF justified its airstrike by saying that the strike had killed senior Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari, while Hamas said that the airstrike had killed seven Israeli hostages.
