Ivo Taillebois

Ivo Taillebois (1036-1094) was a Norman nobleman who served as Tenant-in-Chief of Norman England during the late 11th century.

Biography[]

Ivo Taillebois was born in Taillebois, Calvados, France in 1036, and he participated in William the Bastard's Norman conquest of England in 1066. By 1068, Ivo had risen to be High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. In 1071, he besieged the Isle of Ely where Hereward the Wake was based, and he dissuaded William from freeing him upon his capture. He served William II of England as a royal steward, and he was rewarded with lands in Westmorland and Cumbria along the border with Scotland. He died in 1094.
