
Israel Pickens (30 January 1780 – 24 April 1827) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-NC 11) from 4 March 1811 to 3 March 1813 (succeeding James Holland and preceding Peter Forney) and from NC 12 from 4 March 1813 to 3 March 1817 (succeeding Meshack Franklin and preceding Felix Walker), Governor of Alabama from 9 November 1821 to 25 November 1825 (succeeding Thomas Bibb and preceding John Murphy), and a US Senator from Alabama from 17 February to 27 November 1826 (succeeding Henry H. Chambers and preceding John McKinley).
Biography[]
Israel Pickens was born in Concord, North Carolina in 1780, and he became a lawyer in 1802. He served in the US House of Representatives from his home state from 1811 to 1817, but he later moved to Alabama and served as Governor from 1821 to 1825 and as a US Senator in 1826. He died in Matanzas, Cuba in 1827.
