Islamic democracy

Islamic democracy is a political ideology that seeks to apply Islamic principles to public policy within the framework of democratic ideals. Islamic democracy typically combines sharia law with a democratically-elected government, and Afghanistan, Iran, and Malaysia are three examples of Islamic republics. An Islamic democracy would have Islam be the state religion and the basis for the legal system, but Islamic democracies are supposed to guarantee religious freedom for smaller religious groups. Famous Islamic democrats include Ali Khamenei, Ayatollah Khomeini, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and Sabit Damulla Abdulbaki.
